U.R.Ananthamurthy Shortlisted for the 2nd DSC Prize for South Asian Literature


The famous Kannada writer U.R.Ananthamurhty is one of th six authors who have been shortlisted for the $50,000 DSC Prize for South Asian Literture this year.

Ananthamurthy, it may be recalled, is a winner of the Jnanapith Award.


The Prize was set up last year to honour the best literary works about South Asia.

Ananthamurthy has been shortlisted on account of his famous novel "Bharathipura" (translated by Susheela Punitha into English).The other authors who have been shortlisted are: Kaveri Nambisan (The Story That Must Not Be Told), Usha K.R. (Monkey-Man), Tabish Khair (The Thing About Thugs), Chandrakanta (A Street in Srinagar), and Shehan Karunatilaka (Chinaman).

Last year, the prize was awarded to H.N.Naqvi (Pakistan) for his novel "Home Boy".

The winner of the prize will be announced at the DSC Jaipur Literture Festival on 21st January 2012.
