2011 Nobel peace prize went two Liberian and one Yemeni women. Liberian President Ellen Johnson Sirleaf, Liberian peace activist Leymah Gbowee and Tawakkul Karman of Yemen received this year’s Nobel Peace prize for their contribution towards women's rights.
The Nobel Committee recognized three women "for their non-violent struggle for the safety of women and for women's rights to full participation in peace-building work."
"I am very very happy about this prize,'' said delighted Tawakkul Karman after receiving the award and dedicated this to all Yemeni people.
Africa's first democratically elected female president Johnson Sirleaf won 2011 Nobel peace Prize for contributing immensely for the betterment of the women and also empowering women in Liberia.
Liberian peace activist and humanitarian Leymah Gbowee won for her work on the women’s right. Leymah Gbowee’s organization works for Christian and Muslim women.
