Famous Swedish poet Tomas Transtromer wins this year’s Nobel Prize in literature. The Nobel committee recognized his contribution to the work of Literature by announcing his name as the recipient of 2011 Nobel in Literature, "because, through his condensed, translucent images, he gives us fresh access to reality."
Transtromer who became half-paralyzed after a stroke in 1990 is not able to speak, however he continues writing and published a collection of poems - "The Great Enigma" - in 2004. Transtromer's famous poems include the 1966 "Windows and Stones" in which he portray themes from his many travels and "Baltics" from 1974. His poems have been translated into more than 50 languages.
By winning this award Transtromer will get $1.5 million as the prize money.
Transtromer was Born in Stockholm in 1931. His was raised by her single mother. He started writing poetry very early and debuted with the collection "Seventeen Poems" at age 23.
