Honda Siel Cars India has announced that some 72.115 units of the second generation of Honda City cars manufactured between 2005 and 2007 will be recalled in order to replace a defective power window switch. Though no defect in the said switch has been reported in the units sold in India, the Company is going ahead with the plan to recall the units as part of Honda's global exercise in respect of these cars.
This is the second largest recall by any automotive manufacturer in India.
The company announced that the replacement would be free of cost to the owners of the cars and that individual owners are going to be contacted in the matter.
The Company has, in a statement, said: "HSCI is carrying out the part replacement as part of a global exercise by Honda Motor Company to ensure stringent quality standards for its products."
According to the Company, the third generation of Honda City cars being sold currently in India and elsewhere do not require any such replacement and are not a part of the present exercise.
