First Blind Student of IIM

Driven by hope, determination and self-belief, 26-year-old Suresh Reddy, a complete blind student from Kolkata has battled against all odds and finally made it possible – he enters to the prestigious management school - IIM.

Suresh lost his vision when he 13 years old. Everyone asked him to give up studies but fought on. With help from friends and new technology, he cracked the IIM entrance - the first person with 100% visual impairment to get admission into India’s elite management school.

"My credibility of carrying an IIM tag should compensate. If I say I am from x school people just walk off. If I am from IIM, people will pay at least one second attention. It is that one second that I am looking for," said Suresh Reddy told media.

For fellow students, teachers and institute Reddy is an inspiration. Now IIM Calcutta has also come forward to help Reddy in his fight. From scanners to e-books to giving extra attention, the institute too is finding ways to help Reddy.

"I have no other choice but to be optimistic and at least to follow if not to lead," Suresh said.
