The success story of Ford India’s sensational model Figo continues with its export to new markets in Asia and Africa.
As per the latest reports, Ford India sold, during the last five months, more than 51,000 units of Figo, registering a sales growth of more than 71% during the same period last year. In May alone Ford India sold more than 9,000 units, 7,046 in the domestic market and more than 2,000 overseas.
Ford’s fresh investment of US$72 million for the expansion of Chennai engine plant capacity takes the overall investment of the company to more than US$1 billion in India.
Speaking to journalists, Mr. Michael Boneham, President & MD, Ford India, said: "The Ford Figo's fuel efficiency, value and innovation continues to grow in reputation and popularity here in India as well as internationally, and this is driving exports into new markets."
Because of continued high demand, the company began exporting the Figo to Bahrain and Kenya from this month. Ford Figo is in high demand in South Africa too and it was a runner up for 'South African Car of the Year'.
Ford India is also expanding its dealership network across the country. The company has already opened three new integrated dealership based on 3-S (Showroom, Sales and Service). AVK Ford in Mumbai, Odisha Ford in Cuttack and Omie Ford in Itanagar – expanding its presence to 173 outlets across 102 cities.
