Volkswagen India have achieved a commendable growth of 257% (approx) during the quarter Jan-Mar 2011; 28,072 cars were delivered between January and March 2011; the corresponding figures during the previous year are 7,871 cars.
The Volkswagen Group is represented by three brands in India: Volkswagen, Audi and Skoda. The Volkswagen Group entered the Indian market ten yearsago - in 2001 - with its Skoda brand; Audi and Volkswagen entered the market in 2007. Volkswagen Group India is all set to capture the Indian market with The inauguration of its Pune plant with a production capacity of 1,30,000 cars p.a. is expected to give a major fillip to the company's performance.
All three brands of the Group - Audi, Skoda and Volkswagen have performed brillianlty.
Audi delivered a total of 1,611 cars this quarter with a sales growth of 107.1%. With the launches of the Audi A8 and the Audi R8 Spyder, The first quarter sales of 2011 have far exceeded the half year sales of 2010.
Skoda delivered 8,217 cars registering a sales growth of 52.3%.
Volkswagen delivered 18,244 during the first quarter of 2011 - achieving a sales growth of over 500 %. This spectacular growth is mostly because of the thumping success of the Polo and Vento in the small and mid-size car market.
