Ford Motor Company is going to invest $72 million for expanding its facility at Chennai, raising the total investment of Ford Motors in India to more than $ One Billion.
Incidentally, in March this year, the plant produced its 100,000th engine just 14 months after the commencement of its operations in January last year.
The Chennai plant is the first of Ford to have a single flexible production line to manufacture both petrol and diesel engines. It produces five Duratec Engine (Petrol) variants and a Duratorque Engine (Diesel) variant.
Michael Boneham, President and Managing Director,of the Company said: "This expansion will allow us to provide more technologically advanced and fuel-efficient engines to our customers in India and in markets around the world where we export Chennai-built vehicles."
